The Darien Real Estate market has been busy with 15 new single family listings this week on the Darien MLS. As well for the week there have been 16 accepted offers and 6 Deposits along with 11 closings between $624,000 up to $2,410,000. Year to date there has been 72 single family homes closed recorded on the Darien MLS.
Currently on the Darien MLS there are 172 single family homes listed for sale starting off with a 1200 square foot cottage for $399,000 up to $26,000,000 for an 8500 square foot water front home on 5.25 acres.

Sunday May 20th, 2012 turned out to a perfect sunny day for the William Pitt Sotheby’s Third Annual Modern House tour of mid-century moderns. There were 8 homes on tour some for sale (see below) and some just open to the public for the day. The homes were designed by well known architects such as the famous New Canaan “Harvard Five” and Frank Lloyd Wright’s top apprentice John Howe. Yesterday’s Broker’s Open House in Darien, Connecticut there were 27 homes to preview. The prices ran from $6,800 waterfront rental on Nash Island up to $7,759,000 for a double lot waterfront piece on Brush Island.

With rental rates rising nationwide owning a home seems more affordable now especially with mortgage rates yet again hitting a record low. Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday that the average rate on 30-year loans ticked down to 3.83%. That’s the lowest since long-term mortgages began in the 1950s. And it’s below the previous record rate of 3.84% reached last week (USA Today)
In lower Fairfield County, Connecticut the year to date data is mixed with unit sales and median sales price are flat or down compared to the same time last year as but with more new listings on the market compared to last year. Click on town name to view full report.
