Gardening in Connecticut, August harvest.
It has been a hot summer in Connecticut and with that comes a bountiful harvest out of our organic garden of vegetables and cut flowers. Now in August we get to reap the benefits multiple times. Fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, beets and carrots just to name a few. Of course to go along with our delicious vegetables we have the Herb garden full of basil, sage, chives, parsley, rosemary and even some hot peppers.
A planned flower garden is wonderful because it provides cut flower from Spring, through Summer and into the early Fall. Some of the favorites here in Connecticut are Blackeye Susan’s, Daisy’s, Echinacea, Delphiniums, Lily’s, Dalia’s, Hollyhock’s, phlox, sunflowers just to name a few.
Another benifit of having a garden is that is it a great de-stresser. After a hectic day of running around at 110%, spending a little time in the garden is a wonderful way to relax and release the tension. This ties in with another one of my blogs…take a stroll in town and relax.
If you don’t have the time or space for a garden then the local Farmer’s Market is a perfect spot to pick up fresh cut flowers and vegetables. See Farmer’s Market Blog link for further information. http://activerain.com/blogsview/1777356/farmer-s-market-fairfield-county-connecticut–
Enjoy your summer days of August in Connecticut.
